Morriston Hospital's Radio Station on Channels 3, 4 & 14
Charity Number: 231687

We believe in trying to please as many of our listeners as possible. Of course, it’s an impossible task to try and please everyone but we do try our best.

With this in mind, you will quickly realise the programme output on Radio Freeway is extremely diversified. Our programmes range from music shows covering modern; present day sounds, which generally appeal more to the younger listeners through to programmes like our ‘Supergold’ Show, which is broadcast on a Sunday evening. This programme contains music from yester year, ranging from the 1960s, 70s and 80s, popular sounds, through to country, ballads, folk, etc.

Of course, one of the most important shows we broadcast is the Request Show. This is where you, the listener, are in control of the programme as you tell us what you want to hear it’s your choice of music that counts.

For the early birds among you, why not tune in to the Sunday morning Breakfast Show, where literally anything can happen! On Sunday afternoons we even have a European Music Show.

If you are one of those listeners who enjoy the sounds of Wales delivered through the medium of the Welsh Language, then it has to be a Monday evening, where your hosts John Bevan will extend you a very warm welcome.

There are a number of other shows to whet your appetite throughout the week. These range from comedy hours through to specially produced and recorded radio plays. You can take part in Phone in competitions, set up your own unbeatable ward quiz team with a view to doing battle in the Inter-Ward Quiz. Or how about telling us a little about yourself, when we come into your ward to talk to you ‘live’ on the air. Look out for the Bingo Hit Squad. Yes, we are serious; RADIO BINGO hits the airwaves, courtesy of our intrepid Hit Squad.

If all that wasn’t enough, we have the Janitor’s Classical Gas; mixture of Jazz and Classical Music. (We still haven’t met up with the JANITOR as yet! A real man of mystery but never mind, at least the programme’s good).

How do we work out what you want to hear? Well, it’s not guesswork, honest! The way we do it is through research, by means of our Patient Programme Surveys. Who knows, you may be lucky enough to take part in one yourself! We give a cross section of listeners a simple questionnaire to complete. From these, we are able to get useful information to help us plan a balanced programme output. We will also from time to time send out our researchers to come and talk to you in the wards. If you think you have a good idea for a programme, then we’d like to hear from you. Who knows, today Radio Freeway, tomorrow National Radio?

If you think that you’d like to help out on Radio Freeway, either by presenting a programme OR by becoming a Request Collector, then please let us know. You can either drop us a line or contact us on Swansea (01792) 703105. Please remember, we look for and welcome people of ALL ages. So, if you’re 16 or 60, we want to hear from you.

Radio Freeway broadcasts on Channel 4 in the main hospital and on Channel 14 in the Burns and Plastics complex. Occasionally, due to the rather complex radio distribution system that exists within the hospital, Radio Freeway can be heard on other channels as well. If you are unsure where to find us, then either asks one of our request collectors when they call or contact us at the Studio on (01792) 703105 or Email at radio.freeway@virgin.net
